Connecticut Casino Announces New Smoke-Free Venue

16 October 2000

UNCASVILLE, Connecticut –(Press Release) -- Oct. 16, 2000 -- In response to strong demand from their customers, Mohegan Sun announced today it will unveil a new 20,000-square-foot smoke-free venue in the spring of 2001.

The new smoke-free venue will feature approximately 600 new slot machines, full-service food and beverage concessions and a new cocktail bar with video poker.

``Every survey of our customers has indicated that the number one amenity they would like to see at Mohegan Sun is a smoke-free gaming area,'' said William J. Velardo, president and general manager of Mohegan Sun. ``Similarly, in response to customer demand, we converted our poker area to a smoke-free environment in April 2000. The feedback we have received has been great.''

The smoke-free venue will remain part of Mohegan Sun's Casino of the Earth, located in the former High Stakes Bingo hall, and carry on its tradition of exceptional gaming and entertainment excitement. The bingo hall will be closing on November 25, 2000.

World-renowned interior designer David Rockwell and the Rockwell Group will create the new venue focusing on the spectacular themeing that is apparent throughout Mohegan Sun. Rockwell, who designed the Casino of the Earth, is currently uniting the old and the new with the addition of the Casino of the Sky in ``Project Sunburst,'' which will more than triple the area of the existing property, adding more than four million square feet of new gaming entertainment space.

During fiscal 1999 Mohegan Sun reported more than $474 million in slot machine revenues. The addition of 600 new slot machines will increase our product offering substantially, Velardo said. Currently, Mohegan Sun has 3,027 slot machines. It is believed that with the addition of 600 new slot machines in the smoke-free venue along with the 2,500 that will be added with Project Sunburst, will make Mohegan Sun the largest casino complex anywhere.
