Competing for World VLT Market12 April 1997TORONTO -- A young Toronto company, backed by a host of Ontario suppliers and a legion of talented young hi-tech designers, is aiming for a piece of the world market in the fast-growing business of electronic gaming with a locally-developed, state-of-the-art video lottery terminal (VLT). Classic Canadian Gaming/Gametronics (CCG) of Toronto has unveiled its World Casino Tour, a machine its designers claim will launch a new industry in Ontario and put the company and its suppliers in the forefront of the fast-growing electronic gaming business around the world. "The North American market for electronic gaming machines is currently more than 50,000 units -- 30,000 in the U.S. and 20,000 in Canada,'' explains CCG president Fernando DiCarlo, "and the world-wide market could be worth as much as $200 million annually. That's a $375 million industry in North America alone, and we think we can carve out a substantial share of that for Ontario.'' "The computer animation, the software, the original art and the operating systems have all been developed here by a really remarkable crew of bright, dedicated young talent,'' he says. "What these people have developed is so far ahead of the industry that our VLT will do to electronic gaming what CD ROMs did to computers.'' The CCG design uses high quality interactive computer graphics and a travel theme to take players on a "virtual'' journey as part of the game. "This design adds a whole layer of entertainment to the gaming experience that is more sophisticated, more appealing and more involving than anything on the market, from any source,'' DiCarlo declares. All of the hi-tech design work, from the graphics to the software, was done by CCG's design staff. A proposal to establish VLTs in Ontario horse racing tracks and charity casinos has been approved by the Province. "North America is a growing market,'' says DiCarlo. "Seven U.S. states and almost every Canadian province have approved electronic gaming. The export opportunities to places like the Philippines, China, Malaysia and other countries in the Far East are expanding even faster.'' The CCG machine can be easily adapted for use as a video slot machine for casino use, the company says. |
