Colorado Casinos Continue to Lure in Customers

COLORADO – As reported by the Denver Post: "Fire, drought, stifling heat and a slumping economy seem to be perfect incubators for the gaming business.

"Colorado's 42 casinos have not seen the slightest burp in the steady stream of coin-toting gamblers this summer, continuing a decade-long trend of consistent growth. While Colorado's fire- anddrought-ravaged tourism industry struggles to survive a trying summer, Colorado's casinos are boasting record-setting revenues.

"…Last July was the best month ever, with casinos raking in $62.2 million in adjusted gross proceeds. For the fiscal year that ended June 30, Colorado's casinos paid a record $96.6 million in gaming taxes, a 7.7 percent increase over the previous year.

"Casinos credit an established pool of Front Range customers who loyally make regular trips up to the clanging oases in the hills.

"…The economic downturn that began last year and has recently returned has wreaked havoc for gaming destinations like Las Vegas.

"But the small gaming hamlets outside metro areas are thriving…"
