City Worker Steals $2.5 Million for Husband's Gambling Spree21 August 2003NEW YORK – As reported by the New York Post: "A city employee stole $2.5 million earmarked for needy Family Court litigants to bankroll her husband's casino-hopping sprees in Atlantic City, authorities said - and is now getting a firsthand look at the justice system as a defendant. "Raimma `Rachel' Tagiev, 28 - who worked for the Office of the Criminal Justice Coordinator - was held without bail along with her hubby, Yan Blinder, 43, when they were arraigned yesterday after a Department of Investigation probe unearthed their three-year bogus check-writing scheme. "The crooked couple wrote 400 checks to 17 fabricated payees who Tagiev claimed provided legal services or were expert witnesses, according to court papers filed by federal prosecutors in Brooklyn. "…The duo are charged with money laundering and face up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $5 million if convicted. "…Resorts Atlantic City Casino Hotel reported on Feb. 22, 2001, Blinder cashed out $23,000 in chips. Caesars reported that Blinder bought $11,400 worth of chips on June 4, 2002, then bought another $50,900 a month later and cashed out with just $15,000…" |
