City Deserves Casino License, Illinois State Panel Told

22 November 2000

WAUKEGAN, Illinois – Nov. 22, 2000 – As reported by the Chicago Tribune: "The Waukegan City Council has voted to send a letter to the Illinois Gaming Board to reiterate its position that Waukegan should be granted a license for a riverboat casino.

"…Waukegan officials have urged Springfield to grant their city a license, noting that the legislation creating the first 10 licenses said they were to be used to help revitalize older cities.

"Of Chicago's four industrial satellite cities--Waukegan, Elgin, Aurora and Joliet--only Waukegan has not been granted a casino license.

"…Waukegan Mayor William Durkin has said Rosemont, with its 4,000 residents and 25,000 jobs, is far too affluent to warrant a casino when Waukegan, with 80,000 residents and a tired industrial lakefront and downtown, has been asking for a license for a decade."
