Cirque du Soleil Names London Site

11 December 2000

MONTREAL, Canada – As reported by the Canadian Press: ``The Cirque du Soleil says it will build entertainment hotel-complexes in major world cities, the first in London.

``The first site that will be developed is the Battersea Power Station in London, built in 1931 on the Thames River and known for its four large smokestacks, Cirque president Guy Laliberte said Monday.

``The Cirque du Soleil has formed a partnership with Parkview International, owners and developers of the Battersea Power Station, and will advise on the project's artistic content, Laliberte said in a statement.

``…`We envision our complexes as international meeting places where patrons will be inspired and entertained in the spirit of celebration and festivity,' Laliberte said.

`` `We want to surround our public with artful living.'

``Laliberte described the complexes as `a place where technology, tourism, arts and leisure converge.'

``The project also will provide a year-round base for the Cirque du Soleil in London.

``Planning is going ahead to develop four to six complexes in the next 10 years.
