Churchill Downs Launches $1 Million Kentucky Derby 'Super' Challenge28 April 2006LOUISVILLE, Kentucky -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Churchill Downs Incorporated ("CDI") (NASDAQ: CHDN) is offering Kentucky Derby fans a chance to take home a million-dollar prize when the 132nd "Run for the Roses" is held on Saturday, May 6. The Kentucky Derby "Super" Challenge, a free online contest that debuts this year, offers participants the opportunity to win up to $1 million by selecting the winning Superfecta in the Kentucky Derby. Based online at KentuckyDerby.com, the Kentucky Derby "Super" Challenge requires participants to correctly select the top four finishers of the Derby in the exact order. A base prize of $10,000 is guaranteed. Should the winning Superfecta payoff for Derby 132 exceed last year's record payoff of $864,253.50, the prize will be increased to $1 million. "With the large, competitive fields that the Kentucky Derby draws and so many individual betting interests, the Derby is the greatest single wagering opportunity in horse racing," said Jeremy Clemons, senior director of marketing for CDI. "The Kentucky Derby 'Super' Challenge provides a free and entertaining way for fans to participate in the excitement of the Derby, and to potentially take home a lucrative prize." The contest is now open for registration at KentuckyDerby.com. Players can submit their Superfecta selections beginning on Wednesday, May 3, after the field for the Kentucky Derby is set following the post-position draw at Fourth Street Live! in downtown Louisville. Signups close at 5:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday, May 6. Participants registering for the Kentucky Derby "Super" Challenge will be asked to also select a fifth- and sixth-place finisher. These horses will be used in the event of a late scratch and for tiebreaking purposes. If no one correctly selects the winning Superfecta, the cash prize of $10,000 will be presented to the contestant who correctly selects the winning Trifecta. Players will also be asked to guess the total dollars wagered into the Superfecta pool, which will be the game's final tiebreaker, if necessary. The cash prize will be distributed to one winner only. |
