Church Members to Fight Tennessee Lottery7 June 2001COLLIERVILLE, Tennesee –June 7, 2001 – As reported by the Associated Press: "West Tennessee Methodist are gearing up to oppose a state lottery and other forms of legalized gambling. "Delegates to the annual meeting of Methodists from West Tennessee and western Kentucky voted Tuesday to organize an antigambling task force. "…Bishop William Morris of the group's Memphis Conference said gambling is addictive and destructive to families and communities. "…A resolution passed by the Methodist describes gambling as `a menace to society, deadly to the best interests of moral, social, economic and spiritual life and destructive of good government.'" |
