Chicago Ruled Out for Casino5 February 2003CHICAGO, Illinois – As reported by the Chicago Tribune: "Mayor Richard Daley Tuesday ruled out any attempt to seek a casino for Chicago and said he may shift his legislative push to Springfield from Washington to expand O'Hare International Airport. "Though Daley in the past has flirted with the idea of a casino for Chicago, he flatly ruled it out in a wide-ranging discussion with the Tribune's editorial board in which he said he would not seek a new license for a facility in the city. And he said he has no intention of going after the existing--but currently unused--10th license owned by investors in the bankrupt Emerald Casino group, which failed to win state approval for a riverboat in Rosemont. "…With Gov. Rod Blagojevich's pledge not to expand the number of casinos in Illinois, Daley's comments appeared to doom any possibility of gambling in Chicago…" |
