Charities not betting on progressive bingo

MICHIGAN -- As reported by the Detroit News: "Despite the lure of enormous jackpots and bigger profits, some Michigan charities are turning their backs on Big Money Bingo -- a new statewide progressive game that links bingo halls electronically so all the players are vying for the same prize.

"In fact, several dozen charities have already dropped out of the game during its first three months of operation.

"Players are unhappy with the higher cost of the game, while charities and churches want it to make bigger contributions to their groups.

"...Michigan officials, who contracted with a Georgia company to offer the game, said they're working out the problems and hope to announce changes this week.

"The jackpot grows each week that it isn't won.

"...Michigan charities, who depend upon bingo as an important fundraiser, had hoped the big payouts would help them compete against other types of gambling..."
