Century Casinos Reports Peak Visitation to Its South African Casino Exceeds Capacity19 October 2000CRIPPLE CREEK, Colorado – (Press Release) -- Oct. 19, 2000 -- Century Casinos, Inc. (Nasdaq: CNTY) today reported that visitation to The Caledon Casino, Hotel & Spa has comfortably met the Company's high-end expectations for its first week of operation. The total number of casino visitors exceeded 20,000 and necessitated the restriction of entry during peak hours. This level of visitation appears to confirm the Company's assessment of overall market demand and has translated into a high utilization rate per gaming position since the doors opened on October 11. ``We are very pleased with our first week of operations at The Caledon Casino, Hotel & Spa,'' said Erwin Haitzmann, Chairman and CEO. ``Guest reaction to the look, feel and customer service of the new casino has been exceptionally positive even though many visitors were unable to find an open gaming position.'' He added, ``Considering the ancillary facilities are not yet completed and that much of the site is still under construction, we look forward to realizing the full potential of this unique project once all the first-phase elements are fully operational in early-to-mid 2001.'' In addition to the 350 gaming position casino, the 'first phase' facilities include further upgrades to the 92-room hotel; extensive conference facilities; a retail emporium; The Outdoor Experience team building facility; and enhanced health spa facilities incorporating the historical mineral hot springs on the 600+ acres site. Zoning approval has already been secured for the anticipated future development of the resort to include a championship golf course, 350 residential or time-share units, additional hotel accommodation and further retail facilities. Century owns 50% of The Caledon Casino, Hotel, & Spa and operates the gaming facilities under a long-term management contract. |
