Catskills Casino Ban Creator Pleased

ALLABEN, New York – As reported by the Daily Freeman News: "The man who drafted a resolution calling for a state constitutional amendment to ban casino gambling in the Catskills was all smiles after the Shandaken Town Board adopted his proposal.

"Robert Stanley, a Pine Hill resident and a candidate for the Shandaken Town Board in the November election, submitted the proposal months ago and urged the usually fractious board to adopt the measure unanimously. He said Shandaken leaders needed to speak in a unified voice if the message was to reverberate through the rest of the municipalities in the Catskill Park.

"It took the board until July 11 to act, but the vote was, indeed, unanimous.

"…Stanley said his resolution calls for a constitutional amendment that would prohibit casinos in the Ulster, Delaware, Greene and Sullivan County portions of the Catskill Park. The only casino currently proposed for Ulster County, by the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma, would be on the Winston Farm in Saugerties, which is not in the Catskill Park, but some Shandaken residents fear a casino could be established at the proposed Belleayre Resort, which would straddle the border of Shandaken and Delaware County…"
