Casinos Help Save Reno School Arts Program19 April 2002RENO, Nevada –As reported by the Associated Press: " Three Reno casinos are coming to the rescue of classroom art programs falling victim to the Washoe County School Board's budget knife. "Circus Circus Reno, Eldorado Hotel-Casino and the Silver Legacy Resort Casino donated $15,000 to Sierra Arts to keep afloat the 25-year-old program the school board eliminated in the face of budget shortfalls. "…Since 1977, the non-profit organization's Artists in Residence program has placed working artists in schools who work closely with classroom teachers to enrich and support the curriculum. "…The annual $15,000 that had been contributed by the school district was cut by the school trustees in late March along with other community contributions. "…`Personally, I don't want to see the arts go away,' said Dean Richard, Circus Circus marketing director and father of two toddlers. `I want my children to have the same chance as kids of today have.'
