Casinos face 9pm TV advert watershed8 August 2007ONDON, England -- As reported by The Guardian: "Casinos and bookmakers will be banned from advertising on television before 9pm after a government U-turn on the liberalisation of gambling laws. "Under the 2005 Gambling Act, due to come into force next month, bookmakers, gaming websites and casinos were to have been allowed to advertise on television for the first time. But following a last-minute intervention by the culture secretary, James Purnell, who threatened the gambling industry with legislation if it did not introduce voluntary measures, they will not be allowed to advertise or sponsor programmes before the watershed. "However, there will be an exemption for bingo firms and advertising during sporting events..."
