Casinos Companies Woo Illinois Suburbs8 April 2003ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times: "Even though the bid process for the state's only available gaming license won't be revealed until next week at the earliest, glitzy gambling companies and suburban politicians quietly are cozying up to each other in preparation for what will transpire. "From Donald Trump courting Crestwood to two Las Vegas companies wooing Rosemont Mayor Donald Stephens, the cast of characters is vast. That's partly because the Illinois Gaming Board is expected to allow companies to make bids in multiple communities, providing the towns want a casino, several industry sources said. "At least two companies--gambling giants MGM Mirage and Park Place Entertainment--hope to convince the state to let one of them finish a partially built casino in Rosemont, sources said. "…Besides Rosemont, other contenders for a casino include Rosemont's neighbor, Des Plaines, as well as Waukegan, Crestwood, Harvey, Calumet City and Summit. "…Also, Harrah's Entertainment is eyeing Waukegan as a home dock, which would place the 10th license far away from its casino in Joliet…" |
