Casinos Campaign to Keep Gamblers

8 January 2002

DETROIT, Michigan –– As reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal: "The city's three casinos are spending $30,000 on an advertising campaign urging gamblers to `Play in the USA.'

"MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity and Greektown casinos decided last summer the time was right to join forces and keep their good times rolling.

"Across the Detroit River in Windsor, Ontario, executives at Casino Windsor said they lost patrons at the Canadian gambling hall after the heightened border security arising from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

"About 80 percent of Casino Windsor's business was from the United States.

"…Casino Windsor, which is owned by the Ontario government, is now running ads in Toronto.

"Ohio also is being targeted for more ad spending by Casino Windsor.

"…Casino Windsor also launched the `We Pay You to Play' promotion. On the first day gamblers sign up for Windsor's slot club, the casino will reimburse them for half of their losses up to $100 in Canadian money."
