Casino Workers Charged in Illegal Betting Ring12 March 2003ATLANTIC CITY – As reported by the Associated Press: "Two Atlantic City casino employees were among ten people named in indictments Tuesday claiming they ran an illegal sports betting operation. "Prosecutors allege the group had ties to the Luchese crime family in New York City and was responsible for passing along thousands of dollars in proceeds. "The suspected ringleaders operated out of a casino parking lot, said John Hagerty, a spokesman for Acting Attorney General Peter C. Harvey. "…The wagers were then phoned to associates in Las Vegas, where the bets were placed, according to the indictment. "…By calling Las Vegas, the suspects skirted New Jersey laws prohibiting sports betting, Hagerty said…" |
