Casino Windsor Initiates Campaign to Increase Traffic

29 September 2001

Bearing the brunt of heightened security in the aftermath of the recent terrorist attacks is Canadian Casino Windsor. As security has been tightened across the border between Canada and the USA, traffic to the casino has dropped dramatically. “We''ve lost half our business as a result of the events of September 11,” Casino Windsor spokesman Jim Mundy revealed. The casino, which currently employs 5,200 workers, has laid off 87 “probationary” employees, or those employed fewer than 90 days, while other employees are down to four-day work weeks, or shorter shifts. They are also being encouraged to take leaves of absences. However, the cutbacks are in areas which management hopes will not affect their clientele. In fact, the casino is boosting spending in other areas in hopes of wooing back its clientele and maintaining its status as the region''s busiest casino. Plans to encourage punters back to the casino include beefing up slot-club incentives, reducing room rates and lowering table-game minimums.
