Casino Talks in New York

1 October 1998

Representatives of the Seneca Nation of Indians and the Pataki administration have drafted guidelines for negotiations that could bring casino gambling to the Buffalo, NY, area.

The Buffalo News has reported that although neither side was discussing specific proposals for a casino last week, talks on just that issue could begin this week. While tribal officials are remaining quiet on what they are looking for in a deal with the state, Geraldine Memmo, the Seneca Gaming Committee chairwoman, said any deal likely would be for more than one casino. Pataki has said he would like to reach a deal with the tribe soon.
