Casino Proposed for Boston Racetrack5 February 2003BOSTON – As reported by the Boston Herald: "The Raynham-Taunton racetrack could become a major casino site, if talks held by track magnate George Carney with two major Las Vegas companies bear fruit. "Both companies are said to be interested in the sprawling greyhound track as a site for a major gaming venue. "…Earlier in the winter, Carney took a top executive of Harrah's Entertainment on a tour of his 100-acre track in Southeastern Massachusetts. "Carney indicated that talks with Harrah's have stalled. But he said he's still in active discussions with Boyd. "…Harrah's, operator of racinos and casino resorts in several states, has also expressed interest in the Suffolk Downs horse track in East Boston, which also has land available for development. "A spokesman for Boyd, a giant publicly traded casino company, confirmed Carney's visit and the company's interest.
