Casino Payroll Forgery Leads to Prison Term9 July 2002CLINTON, Iowa — As reported by the Quad-City Times: "A 37-year-old Davenport man who cashed more than $8,000 in fake payroll checks at the Mississippi Belle II casino boat has been sentenced to three consecutive 18-month prison terms. "Howard Davis pleaded guilty to two felony charges of forgery and one charge of second-degree theft. "…Agents from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation arrested Davis Feb. 2 after he took money from the last of five fraudulent checks he was accused of cashing at the Clinton casino since Jan. 8. "Court records show Davis made the checks on a home computer from a residence on Gaines Street in Davenport. "A woman accused of being his accomplice, Belinda Dearborn of Davenport, was arrested earlier in Scott County on two counts of forgery and one count of second-degree theft. "…Court records show she was spotted on casino surveillance cameras and told Davenport police in an interview that she endorsed the checks made by her boyfriend, knowing they were fraudulent…" |
