Casino Niagara Hit the Million Mark

4 August 1997

NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario -- Roderick Paige felt like a million when he visited Casino Niagara yesterday. The Buffalo man was welcomed at about 11:30 p.m. as the casino's one-millionth customer during the month of July.

"I'm on top of the world," said a very surprised Paige after being told what the excitement was all about. "In a million years, I never expected anything like this - this is so great." Paige, 34, visits the casino every weekend. A slot player - his favorite game is Blazing Sevens.

Casino Niagara made a special presentation to Paige in the rotunda entrance of the casino. Among other things, the prize list included: a $1,000 cash prize, Casino Niagara souvenirs, a certificate which can be redeemed for a weekend getaway for two at the Skyline Brock Hotel, complimentary meals at Farfalle (the casino's fine dining restaurant) and complimentary tickets to the attraction of his choice in the Niagara region.

Casino Niagara President Dean Macomber said the number of visitors indicates the casino is fulfilling its role as a catalyst for tourism in the Niagara region. "The majority of our visitors are from out of town and many of them come to the casino on a regular basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for area hotels, restaurants and attractions to benefit from this influx of people to the area."

Attracting one million customers during one month is an attendance record among Ontario casinos.

Casino Niagara opened to the public Dec. 9, 1996. Initial projections were that the casino would attract a total of six million visitors a year. During the first eight months the casino has been open, it has already attracted about five-and-a-half million visitors. Despite the increase in the number of visitors to the area, the traffic and parking problems which were anticipated have not materialized. Delays to get into the casino have also been minimal with patrons having to wait less than three per cent of the time.
