Casino Expected to Pump Cash, New Life into 'Heart of Langley, BC '

``But to businesswoman Pat Weibelzahl it's the "heart of the city" and she believes the casino-hotel complex planned for the land known as Square One will pump life back into Langley.

``After much public debate and despite opposition from the surrounding Township of Langley, the next step in Square One's revitalization occurs tonight when city council gives final reading to the redevelopment proposed by the Gateway Casinos company.

``…Gateway president Dave Gadhia said the plan is to begin construction in September, and complete the project by late fall in 2004.

``…There is plenty to achieve in the $44-million project.

``The key component is the 65,000-square-foot casino, which will start with 300 slot machines, but have room for an additional 100 slots if the market conditions so dictate…”
