Casino Considered for Thai Tourist Spot

25 July 2002

THAILAND –As reported by the Bangkok Post: "Authorities here are looking at ways to revive Koh Lan as a major tourist spot, including opening a casino on the island off Pattaya resort city.

"Koh Lan used to attract lots of tourists before its natural beauty suffered badly from encroachment and uncontrolled commercial development, said Chon Buri governor Chadej In-sawang.

"… The governor said he backed local calls for a casino to be allowed on the island to attract tourists.

"The provincial authority would look into the casino proposal, he said, but added that a final decision would rest with the central government."
