Canadian Wins $9.3 Million Megabucks Jackpot

13 January 2001

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 13, 2001 Press Release - A Canadian visitor to Harrah's Las Vegas Casino & Hotel yesterday became an instant millionaire when she hit the jackpot and won more than $9.3 million on a Megabucks slot machine.

Cynthia Malinoski of Mississauga, Ontario, had played the Megabucks machine in Harrah's casino for less than an hour when she became the latest winner of the Megabucks progressive jackpot.

"At first, I didn't realize that it was the Megabucks jackpot," said Malinoski, 37. "I thought I had won about $10,000. Then someone came by and explained to me that I had won the big jackpot."

Malinoski and her husband, Tim, have an eight-month old son Kenny, and live in the bedroom community of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. A flight attendant for U.S. Airways, Malinoski said she had played "about $15" on the winning slot machine before she hit the jackpot.

"We're always thrilled when one of our customers celebrates a jackpot," said Tom Jenkin, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Harrah's Las Vegas. "We couldn't be happier for Mrs. Malinoski and her family."

Malinoski said she often chooses to play at Harrah's because she "enjoys the atmosphere and surroundings" of the casino.

Nevada Megabucks has produced 55 major winners in its 13-year history. The top prize is won with a three-coin $1 bet. The game builds from a base amount of $7 million.

Winners of Megabucks receive their jackpots from the slot manufacturer, Reno-based International Game Technology.
