Canadian Mayor Pushes for Gaming Cut

EDMONTON, Canada -- As reported by the Edmonton Sun: ``Mayor Bill Smith says he won't threaten to withhold support for new casinos as a way to push the province to deal more gambling revenue out to Edmonton.

``But Smith does want 'high-level' talks to secure a slice of the $373 million Edmonton gamblers contribute to the province's $1.1-billion gaming take every year.

``...Ward 1 Coun. Karen Leibovici suggested this week the city could stop supporting all new casino licence applications unless the province agrees to a new funding deal..."
