Canadian Expert: Casino Staff More Likely to Gamble Excessively22 March 2001CANADA – As reported by the National Post: "Dealers and other casino staff are more likely than most people to succumb to temptation and become pathological gamblers, a treatment expert warned industry insiders yesterday. "They are also more likely to smoke, drink heavily and suffer depression, said Roger Horbay, whose Elora, Ont.-based company, Game Planit, has designed a program aimed at preventing gambling problems among workers. "…`Working in a gaming environment distorts your perception,' he said after addressing a seminar at the Canadian Gaming Summit. "`At the end of their shift, they always remember the winners ... I asked [dealers] "how many big winners did they have?" And they would say, "Three." I would ask how many losers and they'd say, "I don't know." "`If you think of all the losers, you'd go crazy. It's a defence mechanism.'
