Canadian Couple Sued by Las Vegas Casinos8 August 2002EDMONTON, Alberta – As reported by the Edmonton Journal: "The former owner of a local restaurant and his wife have been sued for more than $1.2 million by two Las Vegas casinos where they allegedly wrote bogus cheques to cover heavy gambling losses. "The casinos have obtained judgments against Sai Wo `Ringo' Chan and his wife, Wai Ling Chan, in a Las Vegas court. "…Nevada court records show Ringo Chan allegedly wrote worthless cheques totalling $200,000 US to the MGM Grand Hotel casino between April 12 and 17. A week later, he allegedly issued bad cheques over two days for $100,000 at the Bellagio casino. The documents claim his wife, Wai Ling Chan, owes the casinos the same amounts. "The casinos have filed statements of claim in Alberta's Court of Queen's Bench seeking $364,719 from Ringo Chan and $389,319 from Wai Ling Chan. "…Ringo Chan applied for and received a line of credit for gambling at both the MGM Grand and at Bellagio, documents show. On both application forms, he states that he is the owner of the Dynasty Restaurant at 103rd Street and 76th Avenue in Edmonton.
