Canadian Casino Plans Move Forward

21 March 2003

RICHMOND, British Columbia – As reported by the Richmond Review: "Only a few remaining conditions remain before Great Canadian Casinos Inc. can break ground on a full service casino and entertainment complex at BridgePoint.

"Monday night, Richmond city council voted 5-2 in favour of rezoning the property, located at 8811 and 8831 River Rd. All that remains is for the company to finalize servicing agreements with the city to guarantee the completion of a portion of Garden City and the dedication of a public waterfront walkway, among others.

"`I don't see any unforseen stumbling blocks,] Great Canadian Casino executive director Howard Blank said. `I think it's just a matter of dotting all the I's and crossing the T's.'

"…Anti-gambling expansion activist Bill Chu said the decision to allow 300 slot machines in the new casino is `a farce.'

"…Chu said the province's policy has pitted municipalities against each other in the race for gambling revenues. The results can be damaging, he added.

"…Also included in the $60-million project is a 200 unit all-suite hotel, convention space and retail…"
