Canadian Casino Fined for Letting Boy, 13, Gamble29 June 2001NIAGARA FALLS, Canada – June 29, 2001 – As reported by the Toronto Star: `` Casino Niagara was a big loser in court again yesterday when it was fined $112,500 for allowing a 13-year-old boy to try his luck at the slot machines on Victoria Day. ``The casino has now been fined more than $200,000 in the past two months for permitting youths to gamble in the Niagara Falls centre. ``It has also prompted the casino to take extra measures to keep minors out. The teenager was with his 30-year-old uncle when he slipped past security May 21. ``In May, the company paid a fine of $106,250 for allowing a 14-year-old boy to play blackjack and slot machines. ``…The management company pleaded guilty in Niagara Falls provincial offences court to violating the Gaming Control Act over the Victoria Day incident. The Justice of the Peace imposed a $90,000 fine with a 25 per cent victim surcharge for a total of $112,500. The company was given 30 days to pay. ``The 13-year-old - charged under the Liquor Licensing Act - won't be allowed into any casino in Ontario until he turns 21. His uncle has been barred for gaming houses for two years…" |
