Camelot, French Lottery Plan Pan-European Game

UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by the Financial Times: "Camelot is planning to launch a £50m (US$78 million) jackpot lotto-style game with the French lottery operator, and will ask other European lotteries to join the game once it is up and running.

"The UK lottery operator has held talks with a number of its international counterparts about the launch of a pan-European game, planned to be the highest-profile of its kind worldwide.

"Camelot said the game, which would not replace existing national lotteries, should be up and running within two years.

"…The new game will eventually be open to all European countries, regardless of European Union membership. The plans follow Camelot's strategy of widening its game portfolio and reducing reliance on `Lotto', its main game.

"…The plans for an international game follow Camelot's plans for a daily UK draw. Other initiatives, such as online scratch cards, will soon be launched.

"…Launch of a cross-border game with France would give both operators access to a greater number of players and a larger jackpot of up to £50m.

"..Camelot's move into Europe comes as the deadline draws near for public consultations to be submitted to the government, as part of the review into the licensing and regulation of the lottery…"
