Cambodian Casino Earnings Up

CAMBODIA – As reported by the (Malaysian) Edge: "Ho Wah Genting Bhd expects earnings from its casino operations in Poipet, Cambodia to surpass that of its electrical wire and components manufacturing business, says chief executive and managing director Goh Sin Huat.

"He said the number of visitors to the casino, particularly from Thailand, was encouraging despite the slowdown in regional tourism due to the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

"…HWGB's casino is the sixth in the Poipet area, a three-hour drive from Bangkok. Goh said earnings from the casino would likely surpass that of HWGB's manufacturing operations, which were facing setbacks due to the uncertain global market.

"`There is a lot of potential from the casino operations because of the strong support from the local Thai community and Cambodian government,' he said, adding that the area was well developed with good infrastructure…"
