California tribe wants to replace hotel

PALM SPRINGS, California – As reported by the Palm Springs Desert Sun: "The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians on Thursday announced its intent to study the prospect of tearing down the landmark Spa Hotel to replace it with a new, 420-room hotel in its place.

"The proposed project would also include a 120-room boutique hotel, a 45,000-square-foot showroom, more than 100,000 square feet of retail and restaurants and 2,500 new parking spots in a new parking structure.

"The tribe did not put a price on the entire project or on the new hotel. But its current hotel project at Agua Caliente Casino near Rancho Mirage carries about a $210 million price-tag.

"...Besides the hotel, the tribe is considering:

"Adding 60,000 square feet to its casino floor..."
