California Tribe Offers Road Improvements Funding3 March 2005CALIFORNIA – As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle: "The Lytton Band of Pomo Indians offered Wednesday to advance Caltrans $25 million to help jump-start reconstruction of an Interstate 80 interchange to handle increased traffic should the tribe expand Casino San Pablo. "San Pablo city officials and Lytton Chairwoman Margie Mejia stood beside a giant check -- earmarked for 'I-80 improvements' -- during the tribe's latest news conference to garner public support for the casino expansion. "The offer comes as the tribe prepares to begin hammering out agreements with Caltrans and Contra Costa officials on traffic and other impacts associated with the expanded casino. "The tribe wants to replace its current cardroom off I-80 at San Pablo Dam Road with a two-story building that is five times larger and houses 2,500 slot machines. The Lyttons have pledged to give an unprecedented 25 percent of its gaming profits, which it estimates at $155 million a year, to the state and local governments…" |
