California Tribe Betting on Casino Expansion16 January 2003SAN PASQUAL INDIAN RESERVATION, California – As reported by the San Diego Union Tribune: "Tribal officials hope their plan to double the size of the Valley View Casino will improve their odds in competing against the larger North County casinos. "…San Pasqual has struggled to keep up with the neighboring Rincon tribe, which opened a $120 million Harrah's gambling resort in August. A short hop away, Pala is erecting a 500-room hotel for its large casino. Temecula's Pechanga band opened California's biggest hotel-casino last summer. "…The $30 million project is backed by San Pasqual's new partner, Siren Gaming of Las Vegas. It will increase Valley View's size to 100,000 square feet from 43,000. It also will boost the current count of 900 slot machines to 1,500 or possibly 2,000, Toler said. The number of card tables will be bumped up to 20 or 30. "Plans also include a bingo hall, a four-story parking garage, a bar, a steakhouse, a coffee shop and an expanded buffet…" |
