California Tribal Casino Lays Off 80, Cites Competition2 August 2001SAN PASQUAL INDIAN RESERVATION, California – August 2, 2001 –As reported by the San Diego Union Tribune: "Squeezed by increasing competition, San Pasqual's Valley View Casino laid off one-eighth of its work force last week. "The 80 layoffs were made July 23-25 across the board in all departments, including midmanagement, said John Barbry, the casino's marketing vice president. "Valley View's previous staff level of 640, set for its April 18 opening, was based on market studies done before casinos opened on the nearby Rincon, Pala and Pauma reservations, Barbry said. "…The layoffs came two weeks after the casino's chief financial officer also became acting general manager. CFO Bill Jackson assumed the duties of former General Manager Mac Potter, who left for unexplained reasons…" |
