California Tribal Casino Expansion Put on Hold14 January 2001LEMOORE, California -- Jan. 14, 2001 -- As reported by the Fresno Bee: "Plans to turn the Palace Indian Gaming Center into a premier destination resort for gamblers have been put on hold as the tribe reevaluates its long-term vision for the casino. "For now, the casino will remain as it is -- a small-scale operation offering `Vegas-style' coin slot machines aimed at attracting local patrons. "...When the Tachi Yokut Indians of the Santa Rosa Rancher-ia opened the three-story expansion of the Palace last summer, plans called for continuing construction until the operation was a resort-type casino. "The multiphase project was to include a 1,200-suite hotel, a 50-lane bowling center, a service station and convenience-store smoke shop. The tribe also wanted to include a conference and convention center, a 2,000-seat ballroom, 18 other meeting rooms and a theater to seat 1,250. "...Recently, however, the tribe has decided the Central Valley may not want or need such a large-scale operation. "...The tribe wants to add more slot machines, bringing the total to 2,000 by the end of May. It also wants to increase the size of the buffet area and make more room for table games. "A hotel will be built eventually, but it will likely have only 300 to 400 rooms..." |
