California Trainer Suspended Indefinitely

CALIFORNIA – Dec. 18, 2001 –As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "Northern California-based trainer Brian Koriner, who has ranked among the leading trainers in the region, has been suspended indefinitely by the Golden Gate Fields board of stewards and his case has been referred to the California Horse Racing Board.

"Koriner was slapped with the suspension for failure to appear for a hearing concerning a positive drug test last year of a horse in his care.

"All six horses Koriner entered on December 14 for Monday's card at Golden Gate Fields were scratched.

"`This was going to be the biggest day of the meet for me, and I've had a bad meet,' said Koriner.

"…`I'm ruled off for failing to go to trial (hearing), but my attorney didn't show up. There is due process, but they've never tried my case. It's a little depressing to be blackballed from doing what I love…"
