California Town Locals Angry with Casino Approval

PLYMOUTH, California – As reported by the KXTV News: "Tempers overflowed in the normally sleepy Mother Lode village of Plymouth Friday night, as citizens angrily called on the city council to reject a proposed Indian casino.

"At issue was an effort by the Ione Miwok band to purchase 200 acres on the south edge of the Amador County town as a site for a casino.

"Although a vote showed that 73 percent of Plymouth residents opposed the casino, three of five Plymouth City Council members supported the project, claiming it would fill city coffers and put local residents to work.

"…Although the casino was an emotional issue in and of itself, many residents of Plymouth were particularly furious over the council's handling of the issue…"
