California Racetrack Slots Would Violate Public Policy31 July 2003CALIFORNIA – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: “Legalization of expanded gambling at California’s racetracks would be a violation of established public policy to limit new legal gambling in the state to Indian lands, the California Nations Indian Gaming Association said on Wednesday. “The association was responding to the Thoroughbred Owners of California’s plan to seek slot machines at the state’s racetracks. “…Brenda Soulliere, chairperson of the Indian group, said legislation for slots at California racetracks would go against a constitutional amendment voters approved in March 2000 allowing tribal governments to operate casino-style slot machines and card games…” |
