California Official Opposes Casino Location17 June 2003CALIFORNIA – As reported by the Sonoma News: “State Assemblyman Joe Nation (D-San Rafael) has joined the growing list of elected officials opposed to a casino at Sears Point. "`This is a land-use issue,’ Nation said. `It's a question of whether any development is appropriate in that area - hotel, industrial, casino or anything else.’ “The tribal council of the Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria and partner Station Casinos of Las Vegas have announced plans to restore more than 400 acres of wetlands and leave 1,700 acres in open space at Highway 37 and Lakeville Highway. “…He has been in contact with Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma) and Rep. Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena), who have each written to the secretary of interior in opposition to the proposed casino location…” |
