California Lottery Players Set Sights on $115 Million Jackpot11 February 2002CALIFORNIA – Feb. 11, 2002 – As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle: "Blame the bumpy economy or the winter doldrums. But those scooping up SuperLotto Plus tickets in hopes of cashing in Wednesday on the California Lottery's projected $115 million jackpot don't seem to have champagne wishes or caviar dreams. "People buying the little tickets of hope at liquor stores around San Francisco yesterday -- it's the third highest jackpot in California lottery history -- spoke of practical plans: paying off the bills, funding their grandchildren's education. "…Abboud Massih, 50, the store's owner, said he sold thousands of tickets Saturday before that night's drawing for $88 million. With nobody winning, the jackpot jumped another $27 million with the next drawing on Wednesday night. Massih said he expects to sell many more thousands of tickets between now and then. "Jamal Zakaria, 38, a clerk at GNG Liquor and Deli on Fifth Street said he sold 2,400 tickets Saturday and thinks he'll sell between 5,000 and 6,000 tickets on Wednesday alone…" |
