California Casinos Growing Up

CALIFORNIA – As reported by Hoovers: "In the high-stakes world of Indian gaming, casinos are getting bigger and flashier to lure gamblers.

"New casinos are awash in glitz, rivaling the palaces that made Las Vegas a gambling mecca.

"Existing tribal casinos, feeling the pressure to compete, are spending millions of dollars to transform their mundane trappings into lavish arenas.

"Later this week, Feather Falls Casino in Oroville will unveil its $25 million upgrade that officials hope will put it in the upper echelons of tribal gaming in the increasingly competitive Northern California market.

"..`What this is allowing us to do is have a world-class facility that will handle a lot of our games,' said General Manager Randy Carter. "

"…The new facility also will have a lounge that is `absolutely a knockout,' Carter said.

"…`It's like big fun meets Indian casino,' he said. `It's almost like a Mardi Gras.'

"…Casino competition is fierce. A few miles from Feather Falls is Gold Country Casino.

"…Also in the general vicinity are Colusa Casino, Rolling Hills Casino, which just opened on Interstate 5 in Corning, and Cache Creek in Brooks.

"Station Casinos in Las Vegas is backing United Auburn Indian Community's proposed $215 million casino in Placer County…"
