California Casino Goes Live in Cashless Gaming Environment

11 October 2000

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- (Press Release) -- Oct. 11, 2000 -- Alliance Gaming Corp. (Nasdaq: ALLY) announced today that its Bally Gaming and Systems unit has deployed its Slot Data System (SDS) in an evolving new cashless gaming environment at Spa Hotel & Casino in Palm Springs, California.

The Spa Hotel & Casino, located in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, went live with SDS on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

Plans call for most of Spa's 1,055 slot machines to utilize SDS Ticketing(TM) cashless technology that enables players to collect their winnings via a bar-coded ticket printed from one manufacturer's game that can be fed into the bill validator of another manufacturer's game.

Players may also choose to cash out their tickets at various redemption centers around the casino. This integrated feature was developed in conjunction with International Game Technology (IGT), which markets the cashiering and related functions attached to the SDS network through its EZ Pay(TM) product.

``SDS Ticketing allows us to offer the best of both worlds -- ticketing that eliminates players waiting to be paid and improves our labor efficiencies while still giving players traditional coin pays that add to their winning experience,'' said Tom Doyle, General Manager of the Spa Hotel & Casino. Doyle noted that the Spa's machines will be set up to dispense a certain amount of coins from the hopper before giving the player the balance via a printed ticket.

Bally Systems has positioned SDS Ticketing as the first enabling technology in the California market to blend the player convenience and operator efficiency of ticketing with the entertainment experience of traditional coin pays to the tray. Along with the deployment at Spa, Bally Systems has signed contracts with California casinos that will bring the total of SDS-linked slot and video machines to nearly 6,000 units. Worldwide, SDS monitors nearly 134,000 units in 133 locations.

Bally's SDS product line offers slot machine cash monitoring, accounting, security and maintenance capabilities, enabling operators to accurately analyze performance and accountability. The new GameKeeper(TM) series of client/server software systems allows casino operators to measure the effectiveness of marketing programs, floor layouts and specific machines.
