Cabell County Steps Up War on Gray Machines

20 July 2000

HUNTINGTON, WEST VIRGINIA -- JULY 20, 2000 -- As reported by MSNBC: "Cabell County steps up the war against those so called gray machines with another raid.

"This time a dozen of the video gaming machines were removed from a business in Huntington's west end. The Cabell County Sheriff says the confiscated machines are worth $120,000. Police also seized $554 in cash from the business. They warn more raids will follow.

"Complaints from parishoners and the pastor of the church next door to Packaging Plus prompted the raid. Sheriff Hercil Gartin says a police informant was paid off while playing the machines at Packaging Plus. Gartin says these and other pot of gold machines have migrated to West Virginia after a recent South Carolina ban on gray gambling devices.

"…The sheriff says gray raids are part of an ongoing investigation and undercover gamblers will be out in Cabell County as early as tonight..."
