Business Down For Indiana Casino Boat13 July 2001INDIANA – July 13, 2001 –As reported by the (Indiana) Gleaner: "Business is down this year at the Casino Aztar riverboat in Evansville, owner Aztar Corp. said Wednesday. "The Evansville boat's revenues fell 9 percent from a year ago, dropping from $27.6 million in the second quarter of 2000 to $25 million in the second quarter this year. "Operating profits also slipped from $5.3 million a year ago to $4.2 million. "…`I think a couple of factors are in operation,' Aztar Corp. spokesman Joe Cole said. "`The Comair strike cut down on commercial traffic,' he said.. "…In addition, Cole said, `There's been a little slowdown in the economy in the region in general,' which dampens the casino's business. "Through the first half of the year, revenues at the Evansville boat totaled $52.3 million, down from $55.8 million a year ago. "Operating profits amounted to $9.9 million, down from $11.3 million. "For the second quarter, the Aztar hotel rates averaged $66.09 per day, up from $64.18 in the same period last year. "Companywide, Aztar reported net income of $16 million (or 40 cents per share) in the second quarter, up from $14.9 million a year ago…" |
