Business Brisk at California's Newest Casino

10 August 2001

CALIFORNIA—August 10, 2001 –As reported by the (California) Desert Sun:"Four months after opening the Agua Caliente Casino, its managers say customer traffic is slightly heavier than expected.

"…But the real test for the casino and surrounding infrastructure won't be until the height of the upcoming tourism season, according to casino and local leaders.

"… By opening the casino at the intersection of Bob Hope Drive and Ramon Road near Rancho Mirage, the tribe became the first in California to own two casinos.

"…`Slots are probably a little bit ahead,' said Ken Kettler, the casino's general manager.

"…The casino has added two tables to its poker room and is in the process of growing from 30 to 33 table games.

"The growth is part of a statewide trend as California tribal casinos shed their small-time image.

"…Since crowds flooded the building during its opening weekend, forcing officials to turn patrons away, traffic flows have resumed at a normal pace.

"…The casino's administration estimates between 3,600 and 4,000 patrons enter the building daily, with an increase to 6,500 on weekend days…"
