Buffalo Moves for Casino

8 September 1998

The city of Buffalo, NY, has hired the Washington attorney who helped negotiate the deal between Native Americans and Detroit for a downtown casino, and wants him to work the same magic for them.

The city has a tribe all ready to handle the job—the Seneca Nation—which voted in May to approve casino gaming and is subsequently voting to start negotiations with New York state for a compact. In the latest development, directors of the Greater Buffalo Convention and Visitors Bureau passed a resolution, which won unanimous support from its directors and every major hotel in Buffalo, to pursue discussions with the tribe.
