Buffalo Group Attempts to Block Casino

ALBANY, New York – As reported by the Buffalo News: "Buffalo business and political leaders will head to state court in Buffalo today to try to block the Seneca Nation from building a casino in Cheektowaga instead of the city. The request for a temporary restraining order is expected to be filed with State Supreme Court Justice Joseph G. Makowski.

"The order will be sought by a group, which includes Buffalo Mayor Anthony M. Masiello and developer Carl Paladino, seeking to halt any transfer of land in Cheektowaga near Buffalo Niagara International Airport from private owners to the Senecas.

"…While Seneca officials dismissed the legal threat as nothing more than an annoyance when it was first raised last month, the move could delay by weeks or months the Senecas' attempt to move ahead with the development of their third and final casino in Western New York…"
