Brown County Goes Ahead With Talks On Proposed Casino

GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN – Aug. 17, 2000 – As reported by The Associated Press: "…The county board agreed to negotiate with the Lac du Flambeau Chippewa on the tribe's proposed $100 million casino complex.

"…County Executive Nancy Nusbaum said some members are "unequivocally, morally" opposed to gaming, but others wanted more information on the proposal before making a final decision.

'…The talks could spark a bidding war with the tribe, which for months had been unsuccessful in finding a site for the project.

"On Monday, Lafayette County approved an agreement negotiated with the tribe that endorsed the project in return for the tribe paying $4 million annually to the county and creating 1,000 new jobs…"
